The sounds of dawn in the African bush

Описание к видео The sounds of dawn in the African bush

The lush sounds of the African savannah at dawn.

Zimbabwe's Matobo Hills are a haven for wildlife and this is most obvious at dawn. The little pools of water that have survived the dry season fuel the immense biodiversity of this place and save a lot of its inhabitants from dehydration. They are also liminal spaces where creatures living in forest, savannah and hillside converge looking for water, food and/or mates.

As soon as there's even a hint of light on the horizon, the early birds become restless. A few herons and ducks start moving around looking for sleepy fish or crustaceans. The cicadas and crickets are still loud, but you can sense their energy waning. It's time for the many species of bees and flies that call this place home to start buzzing like there's no tomorrow. This happens very gradually but soon enough their sound underpins the entirety of the soundscape.

Recorded with Sony PCM A10 and Lom mikroUsi microphones. Enjoying the videos I upload on here? Please consider supporting me by:
