Just as the book "Born to Run" describes the indigenous Tarahumara people of Mexico's Copper Canyons using sandals made from old motorcycle tyres, so do many Maasai people in Kenya and Tanzania. So I couldn't resist the temptation to buy a pair from a Maasai woman when I was in Arusha, Tanzania, during a trip to the Kilimanjaro marathon/half marathon.

In case you're wondering what I really think: Contrary to the message at the end of the film, they are absolutely terrible to run in. Horrible in every way.
