The MACC is focusing its investigation into RM58.45 million worth of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) tenders on procurement non-compliance and procedural weaknesses.

MACC Governance Investigation Division director Datuk Mohd Zaki Hassan, when contacted, said the probe aims to determine if there were lapses as highlighted in the Auditor-General's Report released on July 21.

The report revealed that three out of seven UKM procurement tenders, amounting to RM58.45 million, did not follow established procedures.

Investigations found the UKM Tender Procurement Committee selected companies that were not recommended by the Technical Evaluation Committee, the Financial Evaluation Committee, or the Pre-Tender Committee.

The report also noted that UKM failed to appoint a Finance Ministry representative to the procurement committee.

Furthermore, the appointed Higher Education Ministry representative was absent from meetings involving the three tenders.
