Kudremukh ghost town

This is the deserted mining town of Kudremukh in Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka. Iron ore mining started in the 70s and the village of Malleshwara was transformed into a township. As the area is a bio-diversity hotspot, it was declared a national park in 1987. But mining continued as they (KIOCL) had permit for 30 years ending in 1999. It continued through a temporary extension. This is when environmentalist took the matter to the court which ordered the closure of the mine by Dec 31, 2005.

This is how Kudremukh Township became a ghost town which means a deserted town with no or few people living.
