In biology, a genotype refers to the genetic makeup of an individual organism, which includes all the genes present in its DNA. Genes are segments of DNA that code for specific traits or characteristics. The genotype determines an organism's potential traits and characteristics, but these traits may not always be expressed in the organism's phenotype (observable characteristics) due to factors like dominant and recessive alleles, environmental influences, and gene interactions.

There are various types of genotypes based on the specific characteristics they describe:

Homozygous Genotype:

Homozygous Dominant (AA): Both alleles for a particular gene are the same and dominant (e.g., AA for a brown eye color gene).
Homozygous Recessive (aa): Both alleles for a particular gene are the same and recessive (e.g., aa for a blue eye color gene).
Heterozygous Genotype (Aa):

In a heterozygous genotype, an individual carries two different alleles for a specific gene, one dominant and one recessive (e.g., Aa for eye color where brown is dominant and blue is recessive).
Genotype with Multiple Alleles:

Some genes have more than two alleles in the population. For example, the ABO blood group system has three alleles: A, B, and O. A person can have the genotype AA, AO, BB, BO, AB, or OO, depending on the combination of these alleles.
