Children with jump knee gait in cerebral palsy require an extensive assessment to determine the level of involvement, site of affection, and involved musculotendinous unit.
The equine deformity can be real or apparent only. This gait pattern can have multi-level problems, such as equinus deformity at the ankle, Internal femoral torsion, hamstring contracture at the knee, and flexion deformity at the hip. in early age these children require intensive therapy and brace. in some cases where muscles are shorten, they may require botulinum toxin. Nowadays days we started using plaster for these children with the same results of botulinum toxin.
When these children cross the age of 7 years, muscles shorten and become fixed. then they need surgery to correct it. All these deformities should be assessed in detail and managed in single-event surgery. These children need intensive therapy for a few months followed by maintenance therapy for a longer duration.
It is very important to wear proper braces and continue therapy to prevent the recurrence of deformities.
