Welcome to the second part of our special effects tutorial. Today, we are going to teach you how to add explosions, fire, lightning, and animated characters to your video using Chroma Key. Don’t worry, you don’t need to film your own green-screen videos, YouTube has lots of green -screen videos that you can you use for free. We’ve used some of them in this tutorial as well. You’ll find a playlist with our favorite Chroma Key videos under this video, in the pinned comments.

Many of you will be familiar with the Chroma Key effect: you can see it in movies, serials, video clips - maybe you’ve even used it yourself. Today we’ll look at this effect as a way to create cool effects and animations for your videos.

Step 1. Install the program. Download Video Editor for Windows or Mac, then run the installation file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 2. Add video to the program. Click on “Add Media Files” and import two files to the program: one with a solid background color and another one with the background picture or video you want to add to the first file.

Step 3. Edit Your Video Using the Chroma Key Effect. First, select the foreground video on the timeline and drag it to the Overlay track, leaving the background clip below on the main video track. Double-click on the top clip on the timeline. To fully impose the upper clip over the bottom one, select “Cover” mode from the list located above the preview window and click Apply. Next, find and open the chroma key option in the Tools menu. Click on a monochromatic background video in the preview window.

Step 4. Save your finished video. Click the Export button and choose the option that best suits your needs: save as a video file, prepare for uploading to YouTube or Facebook, or convert for viewing on a mobile device.
