CarbonWise is a software project that helps users reduce CO₂ emissions from electricity consumption by using power when the grid is cleaner.

Electricity is measured in kWh, but the CO₂ emissions per kWh are not constant. Grid carbon intensity (CI in gCO₂/kWh) changes throughout the day based on the generation mix (coal/gas vs solar/wind/hydro). CarbonWise estimates real‑time carbon intensity, forecasts it for the next 6–24 hours, and recommends the best low‑CO₂ time window to run flexible appliances like EV charging, washing machines, or water heaters.
