Carinosa in English literally means ‘Loving or affectionate one’. This ‘romantic’ Philippines dance originated in the Panay island in the colonial era from the Maria Clara suite of Philippine folk dances and is supposed to be heavily influenced by the Hispanic culture. A fan or a handkerchief plays an important role in this dance form. Furthermore, this form of dancing is said to comprise of elements belonging to styles such as Bolero and Jarabe Tapatio.
