At least 1 dead, 6 missing after storm sinks luxury yacht off Sicily

At least one person was confirmed dead on Monday, after a luxury yacht sunk off the coast of Sicily in the early morning after a severe storm. The vessel was carrying 22 passengers, and while 15 were rescued in stable condition, six others remain missing.

Among the crew and passengers of the 'Bayesian' vessel were people of British, American and Canadian nationalities, according to Italian Coast Guard officials. Among them, British tech magnate Mike Lynch – who is still missing.

Captain Karsten Borner, a witness to the incident, recalled the tragic moments before the 56-metre-long boat capsized after it was struck by an unexpectedly violent storm, before swooping in to rescue people from a life raft, including, a one-year-old child.

Divers continue their search around the vessel, now at a depth of approximately 50 metres.
