Uncut icy ski runs

Описание к видео Uncut icy ski runs

Ski trip to Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe near Reno, NV on Thanksgiving Day 2012. We were lucky to get great weather that day, sunny and calm. The ski lift operators told us most of the chair lifts were closed the day before due to 45 mph wind. Perhaps the high wind the day before left very icy conditions when we skied. By 3pm in the afternoon, the trails were mostly empty because no one like to ski on icy snow. As you can see at the end of this video, I called it a day at 3pm.

This video shows an uncut, unedited 30 minutes of skiing including the scenic rides on chair-lift. My intention is to show what skiing for an intermediate level skier is in real time. Instead of selective clips that only show the highlights, you get to see everything include the kinda boring but scenic rides on the chair-lift. To get a feel of what a typical skiing day is about, repeat this video a few more times to fill the hours from 9am to 4pm minus a lunch break. I have added annotations to let you skip ahead if you find the chair-lift rides too boring. Make sure the annotation feature is not turned off in your Youtube player. BTW, I think Youtube does not support annotations on mobile devices such as iPad and smart phone. In that case, just fast forward as you need. For those who have never skied before, the scenic chair-lift rides can be interesting too. Enjoy! and please vote & leave comments.

This chair-lift at Mt. Rose is called Northwest Magnum 6. Each chair can take 6 skiers at a time. It gives access to some black diamond (advanced level) trails. The top parts of the trails force you to go down a steep slope (intermediate level marked by blue squares). The lower parts of the trails are good for beginners (trails marked with green circles) if they survive the top portion. Along the way, advanced skiers can leave the trail and seek tougher challenges on cliffs and rocky terrains (marked by black diamond or double diamond signs).

This video was taped using a lightweight Canon HD camcorder mounted on my ski helmet. It is a poor man's version of the GoPro camera, with the exception that I can record up to 2 hours of HD video footage if I carry a spare battery.

Recorded at around noon on 11/22/2012.
