Folk Dance Performance by the girls of classes 5th to 8th on the Celebration of a Glamorous Decade at WISHWOOD ACADEMY, BARWANI

Dance in India comprises numerous styles of dances, generally classified as classical or folk. As with other aspects of Indian culture, different forms of dances originated in different parts of India, developed according to the local traditions and also imbibed elements from other parts of the country.

LAVANI
Lavani (Marathi: लावणी) is a genre of music popular in Maharashtra, India. Lavani is a combination of traditional song and dance, which particularly performed to the beats of Dholki, a percussion instrument.

GHOOMAR
Ghoomar or ghumar is a traditional folk dance of Rajasthan. It was the Bhil tribe who performed it to worship Goddess Saraswati which was later embraced by other Rajasthani communities. The dance is chiefly performed by veiled women who wear flowing dresses called ghaghara.

GIDDHA
Giddha is a popular folk dance of women in the Punjab region. The dance is often considered derived from the ancient dance known as the ring dance and is just as energetic as bhangra; at the same time it manages to creatively display feminine grace, elegance and flexibility.

GARBA
Garba is a form of Gujarati dance which originates from the state of Gujarat in India. The name is derived from the Sanskrit term Garbha. Many traditional garbas are performed around a centrally lit lamp or a picture or statue of the Goddess Shakti.

ROUF
Rouf (pronounced 'Ruf') is one of the most well-known dance forms of Jammu and Kashmir. Decades ago, Rouf was also performed during the holy month of Ramadan to celebrate the beginning of the holy month and later to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha.

Our 10th Annual Day Celebration had been the greatest of all time. The Dances, The Acts, The Anchoring and everything was indeed the best.
