Rocky Mountain Arsenal

Riding a 20-mile loop on gravel trails around Rocky Mountain Arsenal. See link for map:

Rocky Mountain Arsenal is a superfund site. It was used by the US military to produce chemical weapons and nerve agents, and many were buried in open trenches, contaminating the land and groundwater. Much of the area is still closed to the public, but a lot of cleanup has occurred and some of it is open to the public now as a wildlife refuge, and there is a nice gravel trail that goes around the entire perimeter.

I started at the visitors center on the Southwest corner of the park and rode clockwise around the park.
