Julián Aguirre (1868-1924) was an Argentine Composer. As a child he moved with his family to Madrid, where he studied piano, harmony and counterpoint at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, being disciple of Emilio Arrieta and Carlos Beck. He later he received further training in Paris. Later he taught in his hometown, where in 1916 he founded the Escuela Argentina de Música.

His pedagogical work as a music critic in various Argentine publications of the time was also particularly relevant.

He is considered an initiator of folk nationalism in the music of his country, he was the first Argentine composer to seek inspiration in vernacular music, detaching himself from the technical forms ,imposed wagnerism in vogue those times, although without totally freeing himself from the romantic influence of Spain.

Towards the end of the century, he wrote Creole Aires, the Popular Aires and the Tristes, which reached maturity in the Songs and Dances for piano and in the cycles of Argentine Songs and school songs.

In 1960 the official Conservatory of the town of Banfield was designated with the name of Julián Aguirre, in order to pay homage to the memory of the illustrious Argentine composer according to Res. Min. 678/60 of the Ministry of Culture and Education of the Province of the Buenos Aires Department.
