Hearing the word “Mom” for the very first time from our adopted children is something I will never forget. It’s one of those moments that takes your breath away and stays in your heart forever.

I remember when Robert first called me mom — it brought tears to my eyes instantly. It had to be in their time, and we were okay with that. I thought back to when he was younger, the struggles he carried, and the weight of responsibility he should have never had to face as a child. He is a very loyal person and just wants to take care of everyone he loves. He puts others needs ahead of his own and it shows through his actions and words. I told him that from now on, I would always take care of him, and that he could finally just be a kid instead of worrying about things because I am here for him.

Being a foster parent is one of the hardest and most emotional journeys you can take, because every child comes with their own story, their own hurts, and their own hopes. But it’s also one of the most rewarding, because you learn to love each child fully and unconditionally, treating them as your own no matter where they came from.

I will never forget those first “Mom” moments, and I treasure them every single day. ❤️
