Why do words like 'train' sound like 'chrain'? And 'dry' sounds like 'jry'?? 🤔 Learn how to pronounce words that start with 'tr', 'dr' and 'str' in English. Words that start with the consonant clusters 'tr', 'dr' and 'str' can sometimes changes to 'chr', 'jr' and 'schr' to make them easier to pronounce. This process is called 'assimilation'. We use assimilation in English to transition between words and sounds much more easier – so using it makes you sound more natural!
