In October 1936, H. Lee Waters (1902-1997), an itinerant filmmaker, visited Boone and Watauga County to film local residents. This footage was intended for use in Waters's "Movies of Local People" series, which Waters shot in at least 117 communities in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. This particular 8mm print is a second- or third-generation dub from the original reel and was donated to Digital Watauga in November 2015 by Cecil Greene, who acquired the print from Paul Armfield Coffey in the late 1990s or early 2000s. Originally thought to be a poorly fixed copy, it is now known that the dub was transferred to color film stock, thus accounting for the prominent pink hue that caused this print to be known colloquially as the "Deluxe Pink Edition" of the 1936 Waters film. The container for this print also incorrectly dates the original film (a common error) as being from 1938. This print was digitally transferred by A/V Geeks in November 2017.

At 14:16 in length, this version appears to be a real-time version of the film, as contrasted with other versions just over 10 minutes in length in which individuals appear to be moving too quickly for natural movement. We are working on a revised index of time codes to accompany the existing spreadsheet of identifications.
