Peristaltic Metering Pump
A peristaltic metering pump is a type of positive displacement pump used to accurately dispense or
meter fluids. It operates by compressing and releasing a flexible tube or hose, pushing the fluid
forward in a controlled, pulsed manner—similar to how the human digestive system moves food
through the intestines (peristalsis).
Key Components
Flexible Tube or Hose: The fluid flows through this; it’s the only part in contact with the liquid.
Rollers or Shoes: Mounted on a rotating rotor, they compress the tube to move the fluid.
Pump Head: Houses the tube and rollers.
Drive Motor: Powers the rotor to control flow rate and speed.
How It Works
1. The rotor turns, and rollers squeeze the flexible tube.
2. The squeezed section pushes the fluid forward.
3. As the roller moves away, the tube returns to its original shape, creating suction that draws in
more fluid.
4. This cycle repeats, producing a steady, pulsed flow.
