Beckett Simonon Monk Strap Shoe Review: Leonard Single & Hoyt Double:

We're looking at both the single and double monk strap offerings from Beckett Simonon.

[00:29] Style & Construction

The Hoyt double monk strap from Beckett Simonon comes with a cap toe finish, while the Leonard single monk has a plain toe. Here we have the Hoyt in black and the Leonard in Bordeaux.

Both the Hoyt and Leonard use Blake construction with a full-grain Argentinian calfskin upper and vachetta wholecut lining. This means the lining is one piece, therefore no stitches hold it together.

Outside, you find 11-12 stitches per inch, resulting in a tight finish. Also, a suede back in the heel serves as an anti-slip guard.

In our written review of Beckett Simonon shoes, we compare them to Allen Edmonds shoes, which you in the US will be familiar with.

These shoes come in around $160 USD at this video's filming, when you use our coupon code. We've teamed up with Beckett Simonon to bring you this code:

[01:34] Comfort & Fit

Paul prefers double monks, while Charles-Philippe prefers single monks. However, Beckett Simonon doesn't make these shoes large enough for Paul, who wears 14E. Therefore, if you have large feet, you may or may not be able to get these shoes for yourself.

[02:02] Dress Code & Formality

Monk strap shoes are a semi-formal shoe. In a pinch, you might pull them off with a tuxedo, but in reality, it's more of a business shoe.

You can wear these all the way from business professional to casual wear with jeans. Shorts would probably not go well with these, though.

The Bordeaux color is less formal than black, so keep that in mind when selecting a color. This shoe is great for a business setting, especially a more casual business setting. The Bordeaux colorway is suited to fall or winter.

Monk straps are not necessarily the first dress shoe you should get, as a black cap toe Oxford is more versatile. However, these are a great shoe for branching out your collection once you have the basics.

For a typical business wardrobe, Bordeaux is a good color for a 4th or 5th shoe, or earlier if you wear lighter colors. For example, Charles-Philippe favors tweed, and his second pair of shoes were in Bordeaux, which matches many tweed colors.

[04:13] Conclusion

We're doing a series on several of the different Beckett Simonon styles and colorways, which we will link above.

REMEMBER to comment! We'd love to hear your thoughts on the best first, second or third pair of shoes! Also, on how these shoes fit into your wardrobe. Finally, feel free to suggest new videos and articles we can make.

Yours,

The Bespoke Unit Team
