New Baby Tegu enclosure! + Substrate and humidity

Описание к видео New Baby Tegu enclosure! + Substrate and humidity

Hello friends! As you all know I just recently got my brand new male, captive bred, argentine, black and white tegu!!
I am so excited to have him! I have done tons of research and watched tons of videos and I put together his enclosure! Check out how I put the enclosure together for my new baby boy, Ghost.

The only issues I really had with Ghost's enclosure was issues with the humidity. Every care sheet you download or video on youtube you watch, they all say that the humidity has to be at 80%. So I got a mister for his enclosure to keep the humidity at 80%. Well, unfortunately to keep the humidity that high in such a large enclosure, I have him in a 75 gallon tank for now, so to keep the humidity this high the mister was literally going off every 2 minutes. The mister holds 2 and a half gallons of water and I was filling the mister up twice a day. After about 2 days I just knew this was not right at all. His entire enclosure was sopping wet. It was not right. If you watch any videos of Tegu's their enclosure is not soaked like that. So I continued to dig deeper, but I could not find any information on this matter. So I decided to message and comment on all of the tegu breeders videos and on their Instagram. I had two breeders message me back. One was @geekygeckocreations and the other was @south_flordia_swamp_ape
Both of these breeders took time out of their day to help me, so please so support them on their Instagram's and geeky gecko creations has a YouTube channel as well.

So both of these breeders told me that my gut was right. Their enclosures should not be sopping wet like that. They actually need part of the enclosure to be completely dry. He then told me about micro-climates and how they are very important with Tegu's. So basically a mister is NOT necessary for Tegus. Their enclosure should be just dry but what you want to do is make a humid hide for them. So you can take even a piece of Tupperware and cut out a place for a door for the tegu with the rest closed. You can use orchid or sphagnum moss. place a good amount of the moss into a bowl of water, get it all soaked and wet, then ring out the moss and get all the extra water off. After that put the moss inside the humid hide. this way the tegu will have a nice 80% humidity hide and also have his completely dry climate as well.

I am going to make another video on how I am going to make my humid hide. I do have a pretty cool idea I want to try for him.

Thank you so much for watching this video!!! I am really appreciative!
