The Portland man accused of plotting an attack at Smith Rock State Park in Central Oregon sent disturbing, suicidal and violent messages to his former girlfriend, where he told her he fantasied about killing people, according to a court document obtained by KATU News Tuesday.

Deputies in Deschutes County, with the help of officers in the Portland Police Bureau, arrested 39-year-old Samson Zebturiah Garner last Thursday, Oct. 19 near Tumalo, north of Bend.

Prosecutors allege Garner planned to use two pistols and an AR-15 to target rock climbers at Smith Rock State Park during the Craggin Classic, held last weekend.

According to an extreme risk protection order petition filed by an officer at PPB, Garner had sent an email to his former girlfriend telling her that he thought of torturing his former wife, shooting and killing people at Mt. Hood Meadows and that after reading an email about the Craggin Classic, he thought about killing people rock climbing at Smith Rock.
