Please note: this video was recorded last year in 2024, but the good news is that this year's "Vaisaki on the Square" is taking place today on Saturday 19 April 2025 (on Easter weekend)

The festival marks the founding of the Sikh community, the Khalsa in 1699, and is celebrated in various events worldwide. London's official Vaisakhi celebrations taking place in Trafalgar Square take the form of a whole afternoon of free entertainment, the Vaisakhi Festival is a celebration of Sikh and Punjabi culture and is open to everyone and is one of the most important events in the Sikh calendar.

Sikhs give out free langar, langar is Prasad (also known as food blessed by God) so they don't charge for it.

Many thanks to the S.E.V.A. (Sikh Empowerment Voluntary Association) volunteer team who were serving up the delicious vegetarian food which was Roti (flatbread) and Aloo Subzi (dry potato curry).

The S.E.V.A. team (based in Ilford, East London) regularly set up a street kitchen to provide free food for the people (on the streets of the United Kingdom) who need it the most.

It is highly refreshing to come across people who are carrying out unconditional service to help the most needy in our society, may God Bless them all for what they do!!!
