There are two parts to this question - 1) According to Hindu Dharma what is a farishta/angel and 2) What are Om Swami’s view on reiki.

Om Swami says that the word farishta/angel is a very new one though the concept of angel, guardian angel and arch angel have been there for a very long time. It has been there for almost eight to nine thousand years. He says, all the religions of old had some kind of a notion of a formless god or a god who was old with a white beard, sitting somewhere in the clouds, angry almost all the time and punishing people every now and then. They then felt that if god was very busy then they needed someone who would protect them. So do angels really exist? The people then brought forth the concept of angels, guardian angels, and arch angels as protectors of men and women. Angels are from the god’s realm, guardian angels are believed to be our ancestors. The main belief was that there is a divine energy which can protect us. This energy has been given the name of farishta. In Hindu Dharma the farishtas were called devtas.
Regarding reiki, Om Swami says that the person who has benefited from reiki truly loves it and the person practicing it has spent hours doing it and they will not want to question if it was really true or not. He says, there is truth in the existence of energy and to bring welfare to others through it. But this cannot be called science. Whenever something is done with a result guaranteed, that thing’s existence can be agreed on. In reiki, the evidence is anecdotal. Whatever a person believes in becomes their truth and it should be left like that. For nothing is ever achieved by breaking that truth. If someone gets happiness out of doing reiki, pranic healing, numerology etc then they should do it as they are only trying to help others. But, they should be honest and say that they cannot guarantee results, instead of making the recipient feel something is wrong with them if they don’t feel better.
