Who is Brian Timpone?

Brian Timpone is a media entrepreneur and former CBS television reporter. Raised in the Chicago suburbs, Timpone graduated from Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois and attended the University of Missouri where he graduated with a B.A. in broadcast journalism. He began his career as a TV reporter, working for KDLH Channel 3 (a CBS station at that time) in Duluth, Minnesota. After KDLH, Timpone served as the official spokesman for House Republican Leader Lee Daniels in the Illinois Legislature in Springfield.

Currently, Brian Timpone owns the largest network of news sites in the United States. He began his business career after working for Daniels. After leaving public service, Timpone became an entrepreneur. Fascinated by the possibilities of data and concerned about the ever-growing decline in local news coverage by newspapers, Timpone created his first company, Blockshopper, which publishes news stories about recent sales of real estate using a combination of technology and publicly accessible data. In 2006, he founded Journatic, elevating data journalism into local news publishing. He teamed up with the Chicago Tribune to publish hundreds of thousands of stories from every suburban city and neighborhood, covering everything from high school sports to new business openings to lawsuits, before expanding his network of newspapers and online news websites.

As a conservative Republican, Timpone has been the target of left-wing organizations including the New York Time, NPR, and Poynter, his biggest critics. By 2021, Timpone owned, created, and operated the largest network of news sites in the United States. He is a practicing Catholic, Republican, husband and father and resides in the Chicago suburbs with his family.
