“Well… without food… we’d all be dead.” Spoken by the brilliant young minds at Kailua Intermediate School, these words reflect the deep connections being made in Ms. Espie’s classroom. Ms. Espie is a passionate educator dedicated to ʻāina-based education, connecting her students to Hawaiian culture and sustainable living.
In this special Teachers’ Day feature, we celebrate her commitment to creating hands-on learning experiences that teach students not only about kalo and traditional Hawaiian farming but also the importance of caring for our land and living sustainably.
We are so grateful for the opportunity to partner with Ms. Espie and her students, and for the chance to host their outdoor classroom. Her efforts to bring the classroom into the natural world inspire us every day.
Mahalo nui loa, Ms. Espie, for your unwavering dedication to the students you nurture, and for the important work you do to cultivate a deeper understanding of ʻāina, culture, and community.
Happy Teachers’ Day to all of the incredible educators out there! We are honored to work alongside you in shaping the next generation.
