Ethiopian Azmari musician Ertibu Solomon demonstrates the four pentatonic scales used in Ethiopian music: anchihoye, batti, tizita, and ambassel.

Each of these scales is associated with a particular purpose and mood. Anchihoye (0:20) is used primary for wedding music, batti (2:30) is used primarily to support improvisational lyrics, tizita (3:36) is used primarily to express nostalgia, and ambassel (5:33) is used primarily for dancing music.

Ertibu Solomon performs every night of the week at the Fendisha Azamari Bet in Bolle 22, Addis Ababa.
