S. is Mandinka, which she acknowledges is the community in the Gambia with the highest rate of FGM/C. In this heartbreaking story, she describes being introduced to womanhood through the pain of undergoing FGM/C. To this day, she is triggered by the sight of sharp knives and is struggling to understand the health implications of what was done to her.
