Business Ethics: Lecture for Weeks 12 and 13

This lecture combines weeks 12 and 13. We begin with a discussion of CEO compensation and conclude with a discussion about Citizens United and lobbying.
With respect to ethical issues surrounding CEO compensation, one of the articles we read specifically points to an important economic transition - the transformation of money into a product in itself. To further highlight this transformation we look at Marx's argument that industrial capitalism results in the alienation of workers and owners. We also explore how the resize of mercantile economy begins the accumulation of excess capital.
In our discussion of lobbying and Citizens United the focus was on the impact this has on individual rights, the accumulation of capital, and the disproportionate leverage business has over government.
