THX was first distributed in 1983 with the release of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Star Wars creator and founder of Lucasfilm George Lucas hired Tomlinson Holman, a famous audio scientist, to study the sound of theaters and home videos on Skywalker Ranch. When he was shocked that the audio and visual system in cinema had not improved since World War II, he felt that something had to be done. When the new audio facility was done and shown to Lucas, Lucas was amazed of its high quality audio and visual, and felt that it could change the world of cinema as we know it. So the crew worked together to enhance the audio facility to become even better. And thus, THX was born, accompanied with its infamous Deep Note audio logo that can be heard with almost every trailers.
