Performance Descriptions]
Baekkusa)"
‘Gasa’ is a genre of traditional Korean vocal music, known for its extended narrative lyrics. "Baekkusa" (White Gull Song), one of the renowned twelve gasas, opens with the line “White gull, do not flutter away.” It beautifully captures the emotions of a nobleman who chooses a reclusive life in the countryside. This song's lyrics mirror those of the literary piece "Baekkusa." It begins with the nobleman sharing his woes with a white gull, then moves on to paint a vivid picture of his life away from worldly concerns. The song also portrays the charming scene of women in green and red clothes enjoying swing rides during the Dano festival, while the singer expresses a deep sense of loneliness due to the absence of a dear friend. Musically, "Baekkusa" features a melody in Pyeongjo mode (tuned to G) and follows a rhythmic pattern known as six-beat Doduri jangdan.

Lyric]
White gull, do not flutter away, for I seek not to ensnare you. Abandoned by my lord, it's you I've followed, in your flight's graceful view.
Behold the willow's spring hues, so delightfully fair, let us mount white horses, golden whips in the air, through blossoms we'll glide, in the gentle spring air.
Where rivers run blue and leaves share their hue, where blooms blaze in red as a new light breaks through, on valleys and peaks, a radiant view.
Here lies a haven, a realm so divine, a paradise earthly, yet celestial in line.
Upon lofty mountains where green giants stand, bamboo and pines in a towering band, by river sands, peach blossoms expand.
They dance and they twirl, in the wind's fierce swirl, petals aflutter, a spectacle unfurled. A marvel, a wonder, nature's own pearl.

The Place of Background Descriptions]
The Nongwoljeong Pavilion was a retreat for the mid-Joseon Dynasty scholar Jijokdang Park Myeong-bu (1571-1639). After his dismissal during Gwanghaegun's reign, he returned to his hometown and established a private school. The pavilion, as we see it today, was reconstructed in 1899. His descendants left a meaningful inscription 'Jijokdangjanggujiso,' signifying 'the place where he strolled with a walking stick,' on a rock near the pavilion.

Recognized in 2005 as a Tangible Cultural Property of Gyeongsangnam-do, Geoyeonjeong Pavilion contributes to the breathtaking landscape that includes Nongwoljeong Pavilion and Yongyudam. Hwarimjae Jeon Si-seo, who served as Dongjijungchubusa, originally built a reed pavilion around 1640 at what is now the site of Geoyeonjeong Pavilion, alongside constructing Seosanseowon.
