PS - A student just pointed out that I never do say what happens to A's share in the scenario where A predeceases the decedent. A's share, if A has predeceased, would be distributed to A's children (1, 2, and 3), with each of them taking 1/3 of A's 1/3 share (or 1/9 of the total estate).
