Sex for Healing: Uncovering the dark side of the spiritual healing world - BBC World Service

BBC Arabic has uncovered a hidden world of sexual assault and exploitation at the hands of men working as religious healers known as "raqi". Warning: This film contains references to sexual abuse and sexual violence that some viewers may find upsetting.

Many women turn to these healers, believing they can solve their problems and cure illnesses by expelling malevolent spirits known as "jinn".

Over the course of more than a year, testimonies from 85 women have been gathered, accusing 65 healers in Morocco and Sudan of harassment, rape, and demanding sex in exchange for religious healing services. BBC Arabic has spoken to non-governmental organisations, courts, lawyers, and women to verify the truth behind these allegations.

Despite the evidence collected by BBC Arabic, authorities in Morocco and Sudan have refused to take action, leaving the burden on the victims to come forward and speak out against these deceptive healers.
