JMM’s Kalpana Soren made a parachute entry into politics in January this year, following her husband and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s arrest in a corruption case. Soon she won the by-elections from the Gandey assembly seat, a JMM stronghold, in Giridih district.

She has now emerged as not only a prominent face of the JMM but also the INDIA alliance – set to contest the BJP’s Munia Devi. Her leadership in Hemant Soren’s absence, poll campaign, and vocal stance on issues have kept her in headlines.
