The Hawkbirds covering the Ramones track, “I Remember You”
Background…
“I Remember You” was released in 1977 on the Ramones’ second album, Leave Home. It was written primarily by Joey Ramone, who often handled the band’s more melodic, sentimental material. The song is a brief, catchy punk love song… poetic, reflective, and unusually warm compared with the band’s more aggressive tracks. It showcases Joey’s knack for blending pop hooks with punk energy, and it fits into the Ramones’ catalog as an early example of their ability to mix fast, minimalist rock with hints of 1960s-style romanticism.
Lyrics…
🎶 I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh,
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember lyin awake at night, and thinkin’ just of you
But things don’t last forever, and somehow baby…
They never really do, they never really do
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember lyin’ awake at night, and thinkin’ just of you
But things don’t last forever, and somehow baby…
They never really do, they never really do
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooooooh
I remember you, I remember you
I remember you, I remember you
Yooou…
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember lyin’ awake at night, And thinkin’ just of you
But things don’t last forever, And somehow baby…
They never really do, they never really do
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember you oo-oo-oo-ooh
I remember you, I remember you
I remember you, I remember you 🎶

🧸 Brown Bear loves when The Hawkbirds play “I Remember You” because, like him, the song is a little warm and fuzzy. It makes him think about the days when he’s lying in bed, home alone, wondering what life would be like without Sunflower or Rose the Rabbit. As he reflects on his cherished memories and how quickly life can change, his love and gratitude for his friends only deepen. And when the song ends, we all know Sunflower and Rose get extra-big hugs. 🧸❤️🐇🌻
Audio…
This song was recorded on November 16, 2025, in our basement studio. Played in a higher key (1 full step) in order to accommodate Sunflowers's voice, it was recorded on 6 separate tracks, using a Zoom H6 audio interface, which was then mixed in GarageBand:
1. Vocals (Audix OM5 Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphones)
2. Lead guitar (Gibson Les Paul Studio) & amp (Marshall Valvestate 2000) w/pedal (Boss ME-80)
3. Bass guitar (Ibanez miKro) & amp (Fender Rumble 40)
4. Bass drum (Ludwig Neusonic 22” Bass Drum)
5. Toms/snare (Ludwig 13" Tom, 16" Floor Tom, and 14” Snare)
6. Cymbals (Zildjian A Custom Cymbals)
*The drums were recorded using an overhead stereo pair of sE Electronics sE8 condenser microphones, complemented by an Audix D6 cardioid dynamic microphone for the kick drum.
To ensure a precise balance and bring out the nuances of each instrument, we relied on Sennheiser HD-660S2 headphones paired with an AudioEngine DAC3 amplifier during the mastering process. Given the small size of our studio and the inherent challenge of the drums' volume, we are continually working to achieve the best possible sound. We truly appreciate all of your feedback, which plays a crucial role in refining our work. Please keep the comments coming… every suggestion helps!
