Once, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) dispatched a contingent of the army (to the battlefront). Upon their (successful) return, he (pbuh) said, “Blessed are those who have performed the minor jihad and have yet to perform the major jihad”. When asked what the major jihad was, the Prophet (pbuh) replied, “The jihad of the self (struggle against self)” (Al-Majlisi and Bihar al-Anwar).

One should strive and struggle to purify his soul throughout his life, so that he can be successful in this life and the hereafter.
