If you want to record drums at home, grabbing a drum mic set is a super practical and easy way to get started. In this video, I’m testing seven popular drum mic sets (all solid options at various price points) to see how they capture the sounds of a full drum set.

In this comparison, I start with the most affordable - the AKG Session 1, and make my way through to the most expensive option which is the Earthworks DK7 mic set. I was pretty impressed with what each one delivered at their price, and I think this video will help you figure out which set might work best for you.

For the shootout, I used my Tama Star Walnut kit with Zildjian K Custom Special Dry cymbals. Everything was recorded straight into Logic using the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 4th Generation interface.

The mix is only lightly processed versions so you can hear a fair, side-by-side comparison of how these mics really perform.
