Lathrop doesn’t typically have a standalone Fourth of July fireworks show, and instead kicks off the huge display season with its annual birthday celebration.
This event is the first worked exclusively by new Lathrop Police Department which formally took over law enforcement duties from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office at noon just two days before the event tooks place. The idea of an independent, in-house police department has long been a goal of Lathrop’s leaders and even some of its founders but wasn’t financially feasible until recently thanks to a boom in development that has allowed the city to focus its efforts on those longstanding – and previously unattainable – goals.
