Join me as I experienced the vibrant and inspiring Earth Celebrations' ECOLOGICAL CITY – Procession for Climate Solutions in New York City's Lower East Side on May 10th, 2025! This annual event is a unique and powerful blend of art, community engagement, and environmental activism, all focused on raising awareness and showcasing local solutions to the climate crisis.
In this video, you'll get a glimpse into the heart of this "urban ecological pilgrimage." The procession, a stunning display of giant puppets, elaborate costumes, mobile sculptures, music, and performance art, weaves its way through the neighborhood, stopping at various community gardens and green spaces.
At each of these "climate solution sites," you'll witness short, impactful performances highlighting specific environmental challenges and, more importantly, the innovative solutions being implemented right here in the Lower East Side. From showcasing sustainable gardening practices to addressing water quality and promoting renewable energy, each stop offers a unique and artistic perspective on how local action can contribute to a healthier planet.
Earth Celebrations brings together artists, gardeners, residents, youth, and numerous community organizations to create this truly collaborative and educational experience. It's a testament to the power of art to communicate complex issues and inspire collective action.

Eve Orenstein is a versatile mezzo soprano and inventive opera producer. She is a member of the National Chorale, the resident professional choir of New York’s Lincoln Center. Eve founded the Colorado chapter of Opera on Tap and directed the group for 10 years. She was profiled in Westword as one of the 100 Colorado Creatives. Eve and her husband Sean mix classical voice and synthesizers in the space opera duo Orbiting Olympia.
Shoko Tamai‘s choreography embodies a raw and natural expression that transcends dance forms. Deconstructing movement and tapping into a shared ancestral dance vocabulary, she reveals a universal language that connects us all. Her work is a journey to access the profound emotions and experiences that often remain unexplored, inviting audiences into a heart-to-heart conversation with themselves and the world around them.Her work is a call for authenticity, empowerment, femininity, and vulnerability, creating a space for emotional exploration and connection that comes from inside.
Dr. Martha Eddy, CMA, RSMT is a co-founder of Global Water Dances, which uses body consciousness to enhance our capacity to protect water and the planet. This organization sponsors a biennial worldwide environmental dance event that brings together over 180 sites on 6 continents. Martha also created Moving For Life Dance-Exercise for Health, first in NYC, which offers free movement and wellness classes in libraries, centers and hospitals in all five boroughs and throughout the world. Currently online, MFL seminars and classes attract older adults, and people of all ages in treatment or recovery from cancer. It is open to others dealing with chronic pain or illnesses. Martha leads movement choirs for conferences and brings Global Water Dances to environmental justice actions that focus on local or global issues.
