Dalai Lama Departs for Delhi Before Heading to US for Knee Surgery | News9

The 14th Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader, has departed for Delhi before heading to the United States for knee surgery. Numerous Tibetans gathered at Kangra Airport to offer their prayers and well wishes for his successful treatment. He will stay in Delhi until June 23, then make a stop in Switzerland before continuing to the US the next day. The 88-year-old monk was previously advised against travel following a bout of flu last October, but after his recovery, he visited Bodhgaya, a significant Buddhist site in eastern India, in January. Speaking in the same, Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration, Sikyong Penpa Tsering said, “His holiness (Dalai Lama) will have to undergo treatment and recovery could take around three weeks before he can walk again.”
