Talk of Nurmagomedov, the undisputed lightweight champion, taking on St-Pierre re-emerged shortly after the Russian defended his title against Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229.

Moments after claiming the 155lbs title in April, Nurmagomedov made his desire to lock horns with the former welterweight and middleweight champion known.

“Georges St-Pierre said one time, ‘If you’re a black belt, you have to say in your mind [that you’re a] white belt,'” Nurmagomedov said after registering a unanimous decision victory over Al Iaquinta.
St-Pierre himself expressed an interest in facing the winner of Nurmagomedov vs McGregor before UFC 229 and recently revealed that he’s eager to become the first man to defeat the reigning lightweight king.

And according to MMA Team Dagestan, the Canadian could very well be given that opportunity. Earlier this week, they reported that a bout between Nurmagomedov and St-Pierre is being discussed.
"Khabib vs GSP is in the works," they tweeted. "This is all that is known at the moment."

There was no mention of what weight the proposed contest will take place at, but St-Pierre has hinted on numerous occasions that he’s willing to fight at 155lbs. A fight between the pair would undoubtedly be a huge money-maker for the UFC.
