The good news is that they’re still talking but there is no indication that Air Canada and its pilot’s union are any closer to striking a deal. Precious hours are ticking away before a midnight deadline when either side can trigger a grounding of flights. The federal government has indicated that it doesn’t want to step in and as Mark Carcasole tells us, thousands of passengers could be left in the lurch.

There are calls for Canada’s auditor general to investigate a federal program meant to support Indigenous businesses. The Indigenous Procurement Program hands out roughly $1.6 billion of federal work every year. But a Global News investigation in partnership with First Nations University found loopholes that allow non-Indigenous company’s to access that money. Melissa Ridgen has more.

Voters head to the polls in two federal byelections on Monday —In Montreal, a Liberal stronghold is under threat in a tight three-way race seen as another test to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s leadership. But in Winnipeg it’s the NDP that has a lot to lose as the Conservative tries to make gains. Katherine Dornian reports.

In the U.S., both the Harris and Trump presidential campaigns are focusing on battle ground states after the debate. And it’s Trump’s pet-eating rant from the debate that is still making waves and stoking fears. As Bianca Facchinei reports, the former president is not backing down.

The stage is set for scientists to battle it out for big money in Toronto. A pitch competition is helping researchers get their work off the ground, with the hopes of seeing new therapies and technologies developed to help patients. Health reporter Katherine Ward reports.

Nearly 40 competitors from around Canada took part in a lumberjack competition near Fredericton. From axe throwing to chain sawing to the spring board chop, the athletes were busy. Along with friendly competition and community, one athlete says it’s a growing sport for women. Anna Mandin reports.
