OMAN (Muscat): Nothing can prevent sailors with disability to compete alongside physically fit. It is for the first time that Indian Sailors from Karnataka participated in Muscat sailing event in Oman from December 3 to 8 of this month. What is interesting is the fact that these were represented by the members of armed forces earlier, this time it was the trained commoners from Royal Mysore Sailing Club represented by 4 boys and 1 Girl all physically challenged pan India participation.

Before sending Indian team to Muscat all were put to a month long rigorous training at the Royal Mysore Sailing Club at KRS Back Waters and RMYC in Chennai on two types of HANSA 303. This made Indian team participation at 27th Ranking among 48 teams that participated in the event. The event was clubbed with physically challenged and physically fit to demonstrate equal opportunity in sporting.

In Hansa 303 boats, Lokkanna physically challenged alongside physically fit Akash and achieved 15 Ranking, another team represented by R S Venture manned by physically challenged Manjula Lamani and Lakshman Patagari. RMYC Captain Arvind Sharma coordinated at all level to encourage budding Indian talents from Karnataka from food, accommodation, travel and training was met by Mysore Royal Sailing Club.
