Today, on day 209 of my sobriety journey, I found solace in the nostalgic sounds of Kim Larsen & Kjukken's "This is My Life," recorded live at Smukfest 2018. Before diving into the music, I reflected on the deep connection I have with Scandinavia, particularly during the late summer months of August. Even though I've made my home in Sri Lanka, there's something about the end of summer in Scandinavia that stirs up a longing within me—a yearning for the crisp air, the gradual fading of daylight, and the gentle transition into autumn.

These memories are so vivid: the leaves turning yellow, the chill in the evening air, and the comforting thought that it's okay to stay indoors as summer wanes. It's a reminder of the unique beauty of growing up in Sweden, and how much I cherish the people from the north—Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish—there's a special bond among us.

The song "This is My Life" has been a part of my life for years, evolving in meaning as I've grown. In my youth, its rebellious message resonated with my defiant spirit—I didn't care what others thought, and I used that mindset in ways I now see differently. Today, the song symbolizes something far more profound: it's about creating the life I truly want, regardless of outside opinions. It's a powerful and beautiful track, and I want to take a moment to honor the late Kim Larsen. Rest in peace, and thank you for the music that has been a companion through so many phases of my life.
