@ChrisCarberg, Founder of @theaddictionhelp, shares his thanks for the amazing work done by Peggy Sapp and @RedRibbonCampaign.
Hi, I am Chris Carberg. I'm the founder of AddictionHelp.com and I wanted to take a moment just to share what a profound privilege it was to have Peggy Sapp on our Addiction Help podcast recently. The Red Ribbon campaign means a lot to many people. We've all seen it on social media lately.
We've seen heartbreaking stories. I saw a video last night on TikTok by someone who had lost her father to alcohol addiction and Red Ribbon and the potential for it is all centered around preventing addiction from happening, keeping it from becoming a reality.
And I honestly am so moved by the work that the Florida Family Partnership, National Family Partnership, Red Ribbon, the work that they're doing because it really makes a difference. It may feel sometimes like prevention is not going to solve the problem, and that's true to a degree, but it will stop some of the problems. It'll help stop addiction before it starts.
Last week, when I was preparing for the Addiction Help podcast show, I got a note from my mom, who shared a link from Twitter or X that was about Red Ribbon Week. She wanted to remind me about it since it's, of course, a very important time for our family, as someone in recovery for a long time now.
I was working on some graphics for the show and my daughter saw me working on it. She came over and she pointed at it and she goes, that's for Red Ribbon Week, isn't it? So in a matter of a couple of days, a 70-year-old and a seven-year-old both knew what Red Ribbon Week meant and why it was important. To have that kind of broad-spectrum aware of a campaign speaks to its heart.
Peggy Sapp didn't get into this because it was something that had directly affected her. She did something that a lot of us need to do. She saw a potential threat in the future of her family and the families around her and she mobilized to help the families that were hurting from it.
Sometimes we think that addiction won't touch us, or that it won't affect us, or that it isn't our problem. But the reality is that eventually, it always touches us in some way. The chances are that you know somebody who is battling addiction, and it's organizations like Red Ribbon that are helping to prevent tragedies.
It may sound, you know, Pollyannaish to think that we can prevent things from happening and that treatment is the only way. Treatment is absolutely mission-critical to saving lives, but we also need to educate. And that's why I'm so proud to support Red Ribbon, Informed Families, the Florida Family Partnership, and the National Family Partnership.
AddictionHelp.com is honored to have had someone like Peggy on our show. We are grateful for the work she has done across multiple administrations of different parties in the White House, nationally, and that's what it takes. That's really what it takes, a commitment to the people over the power. It's about the people.
I just want to share my congratulations to the team at Red Ribbon for their hard work and dedication and my sincere gratitude for the work they do. It is life-saving, it is important, and we will stand with them, supporting them however they need. Thank you.
