Polly Wiessner. PhD
is an anthropologist who has worked for three decades years among the Bushmen of the Kalahari in southern Africa and the Enga of Papua New Guinea. She has concentrated on social networks and survival among the Kalahari Bushmen. In PNG she has conducted ethnohistorical studies of warfare, religion and exchange. Recently she has looked at the impact of globalization on tradition systems, trying to understand how people manage to adapt to a rapidly changing world, and the impact of changes on health and nutrition She has worked as a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Human Ethology in Germany for 15 years, and is currently a professor at the University of Utah where she teaches Medical Anthropology and the Anthropology of Food.
