Ray Franz points out the incredible hubris of Watchtower/JW.org, a religion which claims to be God's only spokesman, the "Ezekiel class", the "Elijah class", the "Elisha class", the "Jeremiah class" -- yet assumes no accountability or responsibility for its 140 years of unfulfilled predictions. Instead, the Watchtower imitates Dickens' Uriah Heep -- "I'm 'umble, I am", with the false modesty of "we never claimed to be inspired or infallible". JW.org, do you claim to be the ONLY prophet God is using today, or do you not? Ray Franz saw clearly the recurring pattern of religious organizations. The Watchtower not only is NOT an exception, it is an outstanding example of the transition of a religious group which once exalted ANTI-authoritarianism -- become the very thing it repudiated! In church history, says Ray Franz, this transition from the freedom of early Christians to the stamping out of Christian diversity from Constantine onward, took about 300 years. In the Watchtower, that sea change took a mere 30 to 40 years, from CT Russell's late reign, to the last decade of JF Rutherford's.
