I'm Dr. Andrew Thomas, Summit Orthopedics. I'm a hand surgeon. Anytime you're sick and an illness has happened, I think one of the most important jobs a physician does is defining the problem and create a plan. We can't always fix the problem. But sometimes just knowing what the problem is, giving it a name, drawing a picture of it, and communicating what's going to happen from here and how we're going to get through this together. And emphasizing that it's together: that you're no longer alone. If a terrible thing has happened, if it's a saw injury or if it's a - you just aren't able to garden anymore because your hand hurts, that you're no longer alone with this thing, that there's someone who can walk alongside you to the next place, wherever that next place is going to be. And we'll get there together. We're in an unusual position in the country, really, having eight fully trained, fully qualified hand surgeons who practice together. And the patients I don't think always realize this, but when they're seeing any one of us, they're really seeing all eight of us. Because if things get difficult or complicated or we become flummoxed, which happens, we have seven other people. We regularly get together and sit around a table and bounce ideas off each other. And we all know different things and approach problems in different ways. And that's an enormous benefit of this practice.
