Cairo’s Heliopolis district in Egypt launched an initiative called “Sell Your Garbage” three years ago. This enabled citizens to sort their own trash, remove solid recyclables and sell to kiosks set up by the government.

Each year Sweden recycles about 1.8 billion bottles and cans that would otherwise be thrown away.

In 2014, the country passed a law that made provision for retailers selling electronic goods to accept the same quantity for reuse or recycling. The government also reformed the tax system to make repairs on used items more affordable.

While Japan has a Law for the Promotion of Efficient Utilization of Resources. The regulation mandates manufacturers to also run dis-assembly plants where materials are recovered from waste products and reused.
