Transporting racehorses from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere for the Spring Racing Carnival is no easy task.

IRT Global Veterinary Advisor Amy Little explains the process involved and the strict biosecurity protocols that must be adhered to.

Horses bound for Melbourne from the UK set to compete in races such as the Melbourne Cup, Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate are required to spend two weeks in quarantine both pre-departure and post-arrival.

The likes of Constantinople, Raymond Tusk, Mustajeer, Prince of Arran and Danceteria have all undertaken this journey.
