This book proposes that the traditional view of hell may be flawed.

Jesus demonstrated and taught a better understanding of the “good heavenly Father” than tradtional Christian doctrine seems to allow. The very character of Christ arguably opposes the narative that the Father in the end is actually a retributional judge, who’s wants to consign the “unsaved” to eternal torment. The author attempts to show how a better understanding of God’s nature has been in Scripture all along from its inception, although somewhat “hidden in plain sight”.

Unfortunately, this view has been summarily dismissed or ignored through centuries of tradition starting from the 5th century and forward. The author seeks to clarify that the traditional reading of the Bible needs to be expanded to include the lens of the character of Christ; in other words, if/when any alledged actions ascribed to the Father do not match the character of Christ then the interpretation needs to be changed to make the two congruent with the merciful portrait of Jesus. The character we see in Christ is the exact representation of the Father which takes precedent over all early understanding of the nature of God as demanded in the text found in Hebrews 1. Further, any apocolyptic writings in both the Old & New Testament that do not match the merciful approach of Christ in any actions of judgement must be rejected & re-understood in this light…because Jesus ultimately demonstrated that mercy triumphs over justice, “Father forgive them they don’t know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34)

This “more merciful” understanding of God through the lens of Jesus’ character also adds an element of common sense. That is, in the application of the unlimited agape love of God, one can see how the grand story ends in heaven’s complete victory over evil through the healing of humanity through Jesus. Yes, justice is simotaneously satisfied through the triumph of mercy, with the humble, free will repentance of all…which Paul the apostle declared in the final resolution of humanity’s reconciliation back to God: “at the name of Jesus every knee should (joyfully, willfully) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue (joyfully, willfully) acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” Philippians 2:10-11

“Hell” then may be better understood as a self-imposed delusion that involves a level of suffering due to trying to survive apart from Jesus’ love both before or after death (think of the suffering of drug addiction e.g.) Yet in the genius of God, He is able to use this delusional resistance to act as a drawing agent that eventually helps remove the blinding scales from eyes, bringing full understanding and a heart that freely repents and chooses the irresistable grace of Christ eventually… who “draws/drags all humanity to himself” John 12:32 . (The damacus road conversion of Saul to Paul may be a prototype of this process).

Finally, there is a growing chorus of scholars, theologians, historians, philosophers, pastors, and serious lay researchers who feel this may be the next great reformational step in history. The Gospel is actually & eventually the ulitmate reconciliation of all! Now that’s really GOOD NEWS!
